ENOSBURGH – Bruce R. Deming, age 81, husband of Virginia (Sylvester) Deming, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehab Facility.
He was born Nov. 1, 1931 in Easten, N.H., the son of the late Roscoe A. and Irene (Bovat) Deming.
Bruce grew up on the Longley Bridge Road where his parents opened their home to many foster children. He was a 1951 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. He married Virginia Sylvester on July 6, 1952 and in that same year they purchased his father’s farm. A lifelong farmer, Bruce loved his animals, working the land, especially being in the woods and sugaring. He also loved raising bee’s, hunting, fishing, weekend rides that never took the same route home, and searching for four leaf clovers. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his quick wit. Due to the hardships of farming in the 60’s Bruce turned to carpentry, working for Maurice Roy Carpentry from 1966 to 1970, working on many homes in the area. In 1970, due to his current health issues at that time, Bruce decided to go back to farming so his family would have the same opportunities he did. He was a former member of the Grange and the Enosburgh Center Memorial Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Sylvester) Deming; his children, James Deming of Enosburgh, Cynthia Goodman of St. Albans, Patricia Broe and her husband, Timothy, of Sheldon, Glenn Deming and his wife, Donna, of Enosburgh and Gary Deming of Enosburgh; his grandchildren, Lucas Scott, Nicole Marie, Richard Bruce, Alisha, Bobbie Joe, Travis Kami and Jerrica; his great grandchildren, Jaden, Adelina, Emmett, Sonni, Jackson, Brianna, Eliza and Jasmine, and a ninth great grandchild expected in April; his brother, Maurice Deming and his wife Dorothy of Lisbon, N.H.; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his siblings, Charlotte Frank and Robert Deming.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Village Cemetery.
