SHELDON — Bernice Mae Machia, a life-long resident of Sheldon passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at The St. Albans Health and Rehab Facility with her loving family by her side.

Born in St. Albans on March 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Merrill Smith and Mable (Austin) Smith. She attended schools in Sheldon and St. Albans and later married Earl Machia who survives her.

Bernice worked alongside Earl on the farm for many years. She was a LNA employed by the former Verdelle Village in St. Albans for over 20 years. She loved crocheting and knitting.

In addition to her husband, Earl, of 58 years, Bernice leaves two children, Sandra Machia of Black Canyon City, Ariz., and Gary Machia and companion, Helena Keenan, of Franklin, a half-brother Alton Smith of Lunenburg, grandchildren: Jeremy Machia, Tyler Machia, Jesse Machia, Moriah Jette, Megan Jette, Travis Jette and Morgan Jette. one great grandchild: Nataleigh Machia.

She was pre-deceased by a son Wayne Machia in 2015, daughter Catherine Jette in 2011 and a half-sister Lillian Tatro in 2013.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May, 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Luke P. Austin will be celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Anthony Cemetery in Sheldon Springs.

Friends may call at The Kidder memorial Home 89 Grand Avenue on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
