FRANKLIN — Albert J. Desautels, age 79, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at his home in the Franklin Homestead.

He was born in St. Theodore d’Acton, Quebec, Canada on Nov. 1, 1935 to the late Omer & Yvonne (Dion) Desautels.

Albert married Ginette Salois on June 18, 1960 and together they raised their four daughters in Richford. Albert was the kind of husband that would stop and pick wild flowers beside the road for Ginette and not need a reason. He worked for many years as a master carpenter and also became licensed as a master plumber. Albert was an engineer of sorts who, many times, would make what he needed to get a job done. Albert worked long hard days and cared very much for all of his customers. He was in every sense of the word a Craftsman and it showed in all of his work. He was proud of the work he did, but more so he was proud of his wife, Ginette, his four daughters and the home they built together.

He retired at the age of 66 and began traveling around the United States and Canada. Albert and Ginette spent many hours on the road together; for the past seven years, they would spend summers at Brookside Campground in Enosburgh and winters at their home in Lake Worth, Fla. Albert’s favorite hobbies included woodworking and playing cards, croquet and petanque, snowmobiling and bowling. Albert was very competitive but did not need to win. Ask anyone at the campground that played croquet with him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ginette Desautels of Franklin; four daughters and their husbands, Joanne & Vincent Johnson of Franklin, Jayne & Peter Chevalier of St. Albans, Joyce & Chris Sicard and Julie & Richard Hoy all of Richford; 15 grandchildren, Collin, Jordan, Elly, Corey, Jerrica, Keilah, Craig, Kyle, Amanda, Christine, Andrea, Daniel, Robert, Shane and Ricky; 10 great grandchildren; his siblings and their spouses, Germaine & George Provost of St. Theodore, Que., Jacqueline & Gilles Favreau of Sutton, Que., Jean Noel & Noella Desautels and Gilles Desautels all of Richford and Laurent Desautels of Waco, TX.; a half-sister, Martha Chartier and her husband Bruce and a step-sister Theresa Desautels all of Agawam, Mass.; his siblings-in-law and their spouses, Claude & Loraine Salois of Hanover, Pa., Michele & Peter St. Germain of Highgate Ctr., Andre & Jeanne Salois of Tolland, Conn. and Frances Salois of St. Albans and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his siblings, Laurentia & Laurette Courtemanche, Lucienne Dion, Yvette LaRocque and Marcel, Andre, Leo, Germain & Florian Desautels and his father and mother-in-law, Lionel & Yvette (Rodrigue) Salois. Albert was also recently predeceased by sisters-in-law, Yolande Winn and Monique Desautels.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, Main St., Richford with Fr. Karl Hahr officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
